Workspace settings

Settings holds the keys and defaults your agents use. Each workspace has its own, so add them in the workspace where the agents live. Reading and changing settings requires settings.manage.

For every key, see the Settings reference.

Section What it’s for
Appearance Light, dark or system theme. This is your own preference, not a workspace setting.
System Health How many AI providers have a key, how many settings exist, and which required ones are missing
Webchat Appearance Button, message bubble, avatar and accent colors of the workspace web chat
Identity Provider (SSO) Single sign-on for this workspace. See Single sign-on.
API Keys Model provider keys, Vertex AI and the embedding provider for knowledge bases
Integrations Channel credentials (Twilio, Google Chat), voice transcription, code sandbox, and integration key enforcement
General Settings Timezone and display defaults
Observability LangSmith tracing
Conversations How long conversation history is kept
mcp OAuth apps for Google Workspace, GitHub, Slack and HubSpot MCP servers

The page also has cards for pairing the VirtuAI CLI and for A2A clients.

You only need keys for what your agents use:

For Keys
Google Gemini GOOGLE_API_KEY, or the Vertex AI keys below
OpenAI OPENAI_API_KEY
Anthropic Claude ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, or the Vertex AI keys below
Gemini or Claude through Vertex AI VERTEX_AI_SERVICE_ACCOUNT_JSON, and optionally VERTEX_AI_PROJECT_ID and VERTEX_AI_LOCATION
Knowledge bases EMBEDDING_PROVIDER and EMBEDDING_MODEL, plus the key for that provider
WhatsApp TWILIO_ACCOUNT_SID, TWILIO_AUTH_TOKEN. You pick the WhatsApp number under Telephony > Messaging.
Google Chat GOOGLE_CHAT_SERVICE_ACCOUNT_JSON, and GOOGLE_CHAT_PROJECT_NUMBER, which is filled in from it when it can be
Voice ELEVENLABS_API_KEY

OPENAI_API_KEY, ANTHROPIC_API_KEY and GOOGLE_API_KEY carry a Required badge, and System Health lists the empty ones as missing. You can ignore the ones for providers you don’t use.

When you save a model key, VirtuAI checks its format, for example that an OpenAI key starts with sk-. It doesn’t call the provider, so a key with the right shape can still be wrong. Test an agent after you add one.

Settings marked as secrets in the Settings reference are encrypted before they’re stored. Once saved, a secret shows as Configured (not viewable): nobody can read it back, including admins. To change it, select Edit and enter a new value.

Other settings, such as TWILIO_ACCOUNT_SID or colors, are stored as plain values and shown on the page.

See the Security overview.
